Richard Charles Hunter was a Nebraska Democratic politician. Hunter was born in West Point, Nebraska. He moved to Omaha, Nebraska with his family in 1885. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1909, Harvard Law School in 1910, and the law department of Columbia University in 1911, passing the bar the same year. He started his practice in Lincoln, Nebraska then moved back to Omaha in 1912. He was elected both as a member of the Nebraska House of Representatives and as a judge of the Municipal Court of Omaha from 1915 to 1917. He unsuccessfully ran for state Attorney General in 1920 and state Railway Commissioner in 1928. He was elected on November 6, 1934 to the United States Senate to fill the seat of Robert B. Howell and served until January 3, 1935. He did not stand for re-election to the Senate. He ran again for the office of attorney general of Nebraska, winning this time, and served from 1937 to 1939. He died in Tucson, Arizona, and was interred in West Lawn Memorial Park, Omaha, Nebraska.
